Field Visits

Starting from January, in addition to the focus meetings held at MAHAL, field visits were made to the districts of Bayramiç, Çan, Ezine and Ayvacık, as well as neighbourhoods and villages in the centre of Çanakkale. In addition to the cultural actors who settled there, interviews were also conducted with mukhtars, local people, and others who could relate the current population mobility to the local cultural and historical context. Representatives of cultural institutions and spaces in the city centre, such as Korfmann Library and Bordo Building, also participated in these explorations and field visits.

New Neighbours Meeting

Cultural actors contacted within the scope of the New Neighbours project came together at MAHAL on 9 June. Project manager Seyhan Boztepe made a presentation on CABININ activities at the meeting where approximately 75 cultural actors from Çanakkale provincial centre as well as districts such as Bayramiç, Ezine, Ayvacık, Gelibolu, Bozcaada and Ayvacık came together. In the meeting facilitated by Deniz Erbaş, architect İsmail Erten gave general information about Çanakkale settlement culture. Following the presentations and the acquaintance circle, within the scope of the city tour designed by Erdal Sezer to introduce different cultural actors in Çanakkale city centre, Bordo Bina, Mekor Hayim Synagogue, Korfmann Library, art workshops in Fevzipaşa, including Ceyhun Demir and Sanatsever were visited.

NEW NEIGHBOURS Çanakkale Cultural Actors Network is a research project aiming at the communication and cooperation of active experts and professionals from the culture industry (creative industries) who have settled in the city centre and rural areas of Çanakkale in recent years. With the idea that creative individuals will make significant contributions to the development of Çanakkale's potential as a unique cultural city in the Mediterranean cultural ecosystem, we aim to recognise and introduce creative individuals who play a role with their expertise and skills in different stages of today's culture and arts production such as designers, culture and arts managers, translators, producers, directors, editors, academics, as well as artists producing in different art disciplines. Through field visits to different districts of Çanakkale and meetings with wide participation, we are creating a New Neighbours map that brings together everyone we can contact in this process and operates on the axis of communication and cooperation. If you would like to be a part of this network, you can contact us or drop by MAHAL at any time.
