Gravitas Project Starting Workshop

The “Cultural Heritage Regional Art Network: Gravitas” project, implemented by the Troy Culture Association with the support of the European Union within the framework of the CultureCIVIC: Culture and Arts Support Programme, was initiated with the idea of establishing a regional art network that traced cultural memory shaped by narratives and mythologies, and sought to reinterpret and render visible its physical manifestations that have persisted into the present through artistic practices.

The first gathering of the project took place on 22–23 November at MAHAL Art Space in Çanakkale. Bringing together project partners from Çanakkale, Balıkesir, Edirne, and Tekirdağ, this initial meeting focused on developing a roadmap for how shared cultural heritage could be reactivated through artistic practices across different contexts, drawing on the unique local dynamics, potentials, and needs of art in the region. The process was further enriched through meetings with Prof. Dr. Rüstem Aslan, Head of the Troy Excavations, and Dr. Hüseyin Murat Özgen, Head of the Adramytteion Research Platform, whose knowledge and experience contributed to integrating the region’s cultural heritage into the project.
