Peace Cloth

Peace Cloth was the most widely attended event realized within the scope of Biennial. During the 4-month study conducted by Canakkale Social Life Homes, over than 200 women produced a “peace cloth” from lace pieces representing the women’s peace wishes and women’s labour and each of them were collected and combined with collective work. The cloth was brought to Republic Square with the participation of a large group of women and was covered over the cannon in the square on 10th October 2014. By this intervention of women, messages of peace and freedom were expressed, as well as a mass action has been carried out by them in the public sphere. Another collective production of women was Peace Tree, composed of a hundred pieces which were embroidered with the buttons. While the women from Guzelyali, Dardanos and Canakkale producing the parts of the Peace Tree conversed about peace and each part was combined with the message of peace.
